Business Prime vs Amazon Prime

The names are the problem. "Prime" carries so much consumer meaning that people reasonably assume Business Prime is the same membership with a business badge on it. It is not. It sits on a different account, it is priced per organization rather than per person, and it buys purchasing infrastructure rather than entertainment.

The one place they genuinely overlap

Worth putting near the top, because it is the only part of this comparison that saves anyone money.

If you already pay for personal Amazon Prime and you are a sole proprietor, the Business Prime Duo tier is free. Amazon describes Duo as free with a personal Amazon Prime membership, positioned for sole proprietors. So the two products do touch — at exactly one point, in your favor.

Amazon Prime is a consumer product

It covers an individual and their household: fast free delivery on eligible personal orders, plus the entertainment and reading benefits. It is bought per person, and it does nothing at all for organizational purchasing — no business pricing, no second buyer with their own login, no approval chain, no spend analytics, no tax exemption.

Business Prime is purchasing infrastructure

It covers an organization: free business delivery on eligible business orders, Spend Visibility, Guided Buying, extended payment terms on the higher tiers, and Prime Business Rewards. It is sold in five tiers with seat caps, and it contains no entertainment benefits whatsoever.

Three practical questions this settles

"I have Prime — do I still need a business account?" If you buy for a business, yes, and it is free. Personal Prime gives you none of the business features. See Amazon Business vs a personal account.

"Can I just run business orders through my personal Prime?" You can, and plenty of people do. You give up business pricing, per-buyer logins, approvals, purchasing reports and tax exemption, and you make your bookkeeping harder by mixing personal and business orders in one history. For a sole operator buying rarely that may be a fair trade; for anyone else it is not.

"Do I need to cancel personal Prime if I buy Business Prime?" No. They are separate memberships on separate accounts and neither affects the other. In fact keeping personal Prime is what makes Duo free, so canceling it could cost you a tier.

If you are an individual, Amazon Prime is the product and Business Prime is irrelevant to you. If you buy for an organization, the free Amazon Business account is the thing you actually need, and Business Prime is an optional layer whose value turns almost entirely on how much delivery you currently pay for.
