The three that matter most

  • The account is free. Permanently, not a trial.
  • Business Prime is separate and optional, from $179/year — and most of what people buy it for is already free.
  • Seat caps are 5, 20 and 200, not the 3, 10 and 100 you will see on a lot of pages.

These are the questions that came up most in our research, answered as directly as we can. Each one is covered properly by a page on the site, linked below — and every answer traces to an Amazon-owned source rather than another guide, for the reasons set out on our methodology page.

The full answers are in the section below. Where you want depth rather than a paragraph:

If your question is not answered here or anywhere on the site, ask us — reader questions are how we decide what to write next.

Twenty questions, answered

Is an Amazon Business account free?

Yes. There is no signup fee, no monthly fee and no annual fee for the account itself. Business Prime is a separate optional paid membership layered on top of it.

What is Amazon Business?

A free account type for organizations buying from Amazon. It adds business-only pricing, quantity discounts, multi-user accounts with permissions, approval workflows, purchasing reports and tax-exemption enrollment to the standard Amazon catalog.

What is the difference between Amazon Business and Business Prime?

Amazon Business is the free account. Business Prime is a paid membership on top of it, adding free business delivery, Spend Visibility, Guided Buying, extended payment terms on the higher tiers, and Prime Business Rewards. You need the account to buy the membership; you do not need the membership to use the account.

What are the advantages of having an Amazon Business account?

Business-only pricing on millions of products, quantity discounts on eligible larger-quantity purchases, multiple users with individual permissions, approval workflows, purchasing reports and spend analytics, and free enrollment in the Amazon Tax Exemption Program.

Is it worth getting an Amazon Business account?

For most organizations that buy repeatedly, yes — it is free, so the bar it has to clear is very low. It is not worth it if you are a sole operator buying a few times a year with no sales-tax exemption and nobody else placing orders.

Can I use an Amazon Business account for personal purchases?

It is a business purchasing account, and mixing personal orders in undermines the reporting, tax exemption and approval features that justify having one. Keeping a separate personal account is the cleaner arrangement.

What is the difference between Amazon Business and an Amazon seller account?

Amazon Business is a buying account — how an organization purchases from Amazon. Selling on Amazon is a completely separate program with its own registration, fees and requirements. This site covers buying only.

Do you need a business license for an Amazon Business account?

Amazon's published registration requirements are a business name, address and tax identification number, a verified business email address and a payment method. A state business license is not among them, though specific programs such as healthcare purchasing carry their own credentialing.

Can I get an Amazon Business account without a registered business?

Amazon asks for the identifying details above, and sole proprietors are a supported case — Amazon aims the Business Prime Duo tier at them specifically. If you genuinely operate a business, including as a sole proprietor, you have what is needed.

Can I open an Amazon Business account without an EIN?

Amazon asks for a tax identification number, not specifically an EIN. A sole proprietor without one generally files under the identifier their business already uses. Which applies to your situation is a question for whoever prepares your return, not for us.

How much is Amazon Business Prime per year?

Duo is free with a personal Amazon Prime membership. Essentials is $179/year, Small $499/year, Medium $1,299/year and Enterprise $10,099/year. Verified against Amazon's plan page on August 11, 2026.

How much is Amazon Business Prime per month?

Amazon prices Business Prime annually rather than monthly. Divided out, Essentials is about $14.92 a month and Small about $41.58, but you are billed for the full year up front.

Is Business Prime Duo free?

Duo is free with a personal Amazon Prime membership, and Amazon positions it for sole proprietors. If you already pay for personal Prime and work alone, it costs nothing extra.

How many users can you have on an Amazon Business account?

The free account supports multiple users and Amazon publishes no cap on it. Seat caps apply only to paid Business Prime tiers: 5 on Essentials, 20 on Small, 200 on Medium and unlimited on Enterprise. Guides still publishing 3, 10 and 100 are out of date.

Does Business Prime include free shipping?

Amazon describes it as fast, free business delivery on eligible orders. The eligibility qualifier is Amazon's own and we do not restate it more strongly — check it against the kind of orders you actually place.

Is Amazon Business Prime worth it?

It turns on shipping volume and headcount. On rewards alone, Essentials at $179/year is repaid at roughly $8,950 of qualifying annual spend on brands sold by Amazon. Below that, the case rests on delivery charges you currently pay — which only your own order history can tell you.

Is there an Amazon Business Prime free trial?

Amazon's plan page says 'see if you qualify for a 30-day free trial' on Essentials and 'an extended free trial' on Small and Medium. The wording is conditional — eligibility is Amazon's decision, so treat a trial as possible rather than guaranteed.

How do I cancel Amazon Business Prime?

Cancel from the Business Prime settings inside your Amazon Business account, signed in as an administrator. Canceling the membership does not close the account — the free tier underneath keeps business pricing, multi-user access, approvals, reporting and tax exemption.

How does Amazon Business tax exemption work?

An administrator enrolls in the Amazon Tax Exemption Program via Business Settings, then Tax Exemption and licenses, then Tax exemption, then Add Tax Exemptions. Amazon says exemption activates within 15 minutes of a successful enrollment. It is free on the account — no Business Prime needed.

What are Amazon Business net terms?

Extended payment terms letting you pay after delivery rather than at checkout. Amazon publishes 45-day terms on the Small Business Prime tier and 60-day on Enterprise, both requiring a Business Credit Account and both granted upon approval — not automatic with the membership.
